Started walking, but now I'm running...

by Eric
(Cincinnati, OH)

2 months ago I decided I was way too fat (6'1" 300 Lbs), so I hit the sidewalk and walked a mile. The next day I walked 2 miles, and kept increasing my distance every week a little more. Eventually I got up to walking 3.5 miles a day. I started yearning for more of a workout in the same period of time, so I just started jogging off and on during my walks. Then one day I jogged about .25 miles and thought, "Wow, that's pretty far." That initial run was about a month ago. Then I built up to .5 miles, then a mile. One night I was running, and just kept running, until I had gone 2 miles. That was about a week and a half ago. A couple days ago I ran with my brother in law, and he encouraged me to run 3 miles (he weighs 160 Lbs, so easy for him to say), but I did it! The next day I was a little sore, but nothing crazy. Tonight I ran 2 miles, and walked about a mile and a half. I've lost 30 pounds so far doing this (270 Lbs now). Running is definitely getting easier, but the last half mile usually sucks pretty bad. After I'm done I feel great and don't have any pain, and I make sure to stretch. I'm just rambling, but I hope this encourages someone who is very overweight to start walking every day, and maybe even running some like me.
