Running For Fitness Training. The Best Way To Stay In Shape For Life!

Running for fitness is perhaps the purest of all sports and activities. It requires very little equipment and its an activity we humans have done since we first stood up on two legs.

Very soon after we learn to walk we figure out its more fun to run! It gets us about quicker and it feels good to be on the move.

Regardless of your sport, most will jog either as part of their game, or as part of a training program. It is therefore important to make sure your technique and training program are not going to lead to injury if you're running for fitness as part of your training.

It's a perfectly natural activity providing you with a means to keep fit and healthy throughout your life. When the demands of work and family may get you down, it's great to escape for a short while to be alone and gather your thoughts as you get back to an activity evolution has designed you to do well.

Running Yourself Into The Ground?

If you choose to run for fitness purposes, you will have a challenge for life. No matter how long you train, there is always the thought you can go further and faster. However, somewhere between sprinting about for fun as a child and buying your first pair of training shoes you can make it harder then it should be. The thought of getting a personal best can lead to habits that involve putting in the wrong kind of effort. These habits become part of your technique until you don't even know you are wasting valuable effort holding up your shoulders, tightening your neck or holding in your lower back.

The more you run like this, the better you get at doing it like this - whether efficiently or not. Practice makes permanent, not necessarily perfect! The long distances you cover make it essential to develop an efficient technique. A large percentage of the stride phase requires no effort yet most will kick the leg through, when it will swing just as fast if you let go of it. Arms also play a fundamental role in the efficiency of the movement but how many think about how to use them?
