Running: The Purest of All Sports
Running is an excellent activity to get fit and stay fit.
To start, you need very little kit and you can do it on your own, with a friend or you may even decide to join a running club.
Whether you're eight or eighty, you can run. Obviously, if you have any doubts you should consult your doctor first, but as long as you start sensibly, you can build up to any distance you like.
Many people choose to run, as either training to get fit for their sport, or just for the fun of it. And it's not just about running for miles upon miles.
You can choose to specialise in any distance from 5k to 26 miles, or run short, fast bursts, road-running, cross-country or just with the dog.
But which ever way you run, it's best to check your running technique. A good technique helps you to avoid injury, run faster and for longer, plus adds to your knowledge of this purest of all sports.
Running Tips To Keep You On The Road
I've already mentioned running technique, because in my view, it's the most important aspect of running.
So how to you get started if you're new to running?
My free Beginners Running Plan has a ten-week starter program that will gradually build your fitness through a structured plan.
Or for more advice on starting a new training regime, choosing and buying kit and both a beginners and intermediate plan, see my Beginners Running Program.
One of the greatest experiences in sport is being in The Zone - so what does it feel like? Check out my description of Running in The Zone - when you're in it, you won't want to run any other way.
But how do you get there? See my guide on How to get into The Zone
If you've ever felt your best performance was your easiest, you were in The Zone.
It's a sporting paradox, but I believe there is an explanation to what's happening when we feel like this.
See my Mental Sports Training program for practical ways on how to experience being in The Zone more often, regardless of your sport.
Also see my page on running for fitness for more tips on how to get the most from this great activity.
