I guess you're probably watching what you eat but don't cut out fat completely. I found when I started running I didnt have any energy. A friend recommended I try Barry Sear's Zone Diet as it allows you to eat a little more fat. I found this help tremendously because the body does need fat (as well as all the good stuff). Perhaps give it a go. I lost weight and had more gas in the tank.

Keep going David by: John
I'm a bit older than you (48) but also decided to start running to lose weight and keep fit.
I don't think you need expensive running shoes. I only paid more than $60 for a pair when I reached 4 miles plus. You might want to vary your training sessions. You could try doing short sprints (or faster than your jogging pace) and walk to recover before sprinting again. You'll find that shorter faster runs will help with your fitness and endurance on the longer runs.
As for breathing I know some say you should breath through the nose but I found it impossible. I try not to focus on the breathing and it seems to take care of itself now.
For posture the guy who runs this site has a lot of very good advice. I found his program very useful.
Hope this helps David, good luck and keep us posted.
