My easiest run ever!

by Roger
(Norwich, England)

Until I read your article I wasn't aware of the term 'Zone' but I know I must definitely have been in the Zone on a run a few months ago. It was the best time I had run my 6 mile route yet at the same time the easiest!

I'm only a casual runner and run to stay fit and because I enjoy it. I started as usual with a warm up and then eased myself into the first 1/2 a mile. I usually increase my speed and aim for around 7 minute miles for my 6 mile run. I really don't know what was different on this run but suddenly I just felt like I was flying along with virtually no effort involved. I felt light and the hedges seemed to fly past.

At the same time I felt incredibly content and happy. All sorts of thoughts seemed to flow through my mind and the miles became insignificant really. I usually get quite tired in the last mile but for this run it never happened.

My final time was 39 mins 46 secs - well inside my previous best of 41:34. Ive not had quite the same experience since but I'm hoping it will come again. As I said not sure why it happened like this on that particular run.
