Keeping Motivated for the Bajillionth Time

I've tried and tried to get into running before, but it seems that every time I start to notice improvements, something just makes me stop. It's either because I'm bored out of my mind with it, my mind keeps telling me to stop, it hurts, etc. I'm in the military and when I do my PT test every six months, I do it on the bike. The standard, however, is a 1.5 mile run. I did it in boot camp, and I want to do it again. The bike is an option, but like I said, the standard is running. How do you keep yourself motivated? I've tried having a running partner, but that doesn't work out too well either because I'm so much slower. Help! I want to stick to it this time!
