I'm Roy Palmer and I have been running for over 20 years but it wasn't until I started training to teach The Alexander Technique that I began to understand how I could train intelligently. Like many I assumed it was just about going out, running fast and getting fit, but now I realise running has far much more to offer.

Back in the 1980s I switched on my TV which just happened to be tuned into the London Marathon. Within minutes I was transfixed by all those runners and amazed at how they could keep going mile after mile. I though they must be super-human!
I wasn't in very good shape at the time but decided to give it a go along with all the other 'fun runners' of the time. The following year I ran a marathon myself and cannot begin to describe the feeling of elation as I finished - not to mention the dramatic improvement in my fitness.
